Every September, National Indoor Plant Week gives us a reason to celebrate something we already believe in year-round: indoor plants make spaces better. Plants are more than a nice finishing touch in an office lobby, or a way to fill an empty corner. Thoughtfully designed green interiors can influence how a space feels, functions, and connects people to their surroundings.
So, why do indoor plants deserve a full week of celebration?
They Bring Nature Indoors
Humans spend 90% of our time indoors, surrounded by walls, desks, screens, and other built elements. Indoor plants offer a simple way to introduce something natural into those built environments. This is the main concept behind biophilic design: creating spaces that incorporate elements of nature to make the space feel more connected, comfortable, and inviting.
A few well-placed plants can soften hard architectural lines, add color and texture, and bring a sense of life to spaces that might otherwise feel purely functional.
They Help Define a Space
Plants play a surprisingly important role in interior design. A large specimen plant can turn an empty corner into a focal point. A grouping of plants can help define a seating area. Planters can add visual interest while also serving as wayfinding tools; guiding people through a space. When best utilized, indoor plants are part of the interior design itself—not just added in when the build is completed.

One Week to Celebrate Something That Lasts All Year
National Indoor Plant Week may only happen once a year, but the benefits of incorporating plants into our indoor environments certainly aren’t limited to one week in September. From a single statement plant to a thoughtfully designed collection of greenery, indoor plants have the ability to transform the way a space looks and feels. They connect us with nature, complement interior architecture, and help create environments where people want to spend time.
