The success of our work at Gravity 2.0 was recognized at the 2024 International Plantscape Awards, where Oakland Green Interiors took home a Platinum award for the Gravity 2.0 Mural Display, “Bloom Where You are Planted.” Additionally, we earned Gold and Silver awards across seven other categories.

Initial Challenges
Gravity 2.0 is a groundbreaking development project recognized as “the world’s largest conscious community.” The project spans four multi-use buildings and courtyards incorporating living, retail, office, and relaxation and entertainment spaces. The challenge for this project was to create a three-dimentional “hair-piece” from faux florals…and attach it to a 30ft tall exterior concrete wall.
Partnering with New York City muralist OG Millie, Oakland Green Interiors was commissioned to bring life to a graffiti-covered exterior wall of this two story building in Franklinton, Columbus. Known for their vibrant and expressive style, OG Millie’s work features bold colors and dynamic compositions and visual inspiration from their native New York. For this project, the artist drew inspiration from their background and personal experience while creating an image that resonates with Columbus residents and visitors alike.
Oakland Green Interiors was tasked with creating the three-dimensional floral element that acts as the portrait’s hair. Their expertise in transforming spaces with plant-based designs made them an ideal choice for this unique project. The team at Oakland Green Interiors designed and crafted a series of shaped and layered wire grids to mold and support the weight of over 5000 individual floral components. Special care was taken to securely attach the pieces to the wall and materials were selected to stand up to the variety of elements and temperatures experienced in Columbus. The flower display serves as a three-dimensional and responsive feature of the portrait, adding depth, movement, texture, and visual interest to the overall installation.
The Solution: Oakland Green Interiors Brings Design & Engineering Together
Oakland Green Interiors approached the challenge with a design crafted to withstand weather and temperature fluxuations while also manifesting softness and fluidity.
Multiple layers of different guages of wire grids were bent, shaped, and attached to wood 2x4s that were bolted to the wall of the building. The wire armature gave shape and three-dimensionality to the hairpiece, over which was laid wire grids with attached floral pieces. Lenghts of floral covered grids were labeled and marked for on-site assembly and everything had to be carefully and securely attached to prevent any risk of falling pieces.
The success of this project hinged on the seamless collaboration between OG Millie and Oakland Green Interiors. The teams worked together to ensure that the mural and floral elements complemented each other in terms of color, scale, and overall aesthetic. Their collaboration showcases the potential for interdisciplinary approaches in public art installations.

In 2024, Oakland Green Interiors received a Platinum award at the International Plantscape Awards for their design and installation of this project.
